1,000 heads of native chicken per week production

Join undertakings between the Iloilo City Agriculture Office and CPU Philippine Native Chicken

The Iloilo City Agriculture and the Central Philippine University Research Station for Philippine Native Chicken are starting to spread the technology packages for raising local chicken among the area's interested farmers. For the benefit of the partner-raisers, a series of lectures and specialized training will be held. The activities started on January 13, 2023, at USWAG Nursery in Barangay Tacas, Jaro, Iloilo City. The following day, a lecture was held on-site at CPU. Nearly 40 farmer leaders from Iloilo City took part in these activities.

The activities continue on January 21, 2023, as part of the completion of the plan for the urban farmers in this city to produce native chicken. Key Farmers Federation representatives, including Marivic Pastolero and Rodlen Gallenero, Hibao-an Sur's barangay captain, were present. The City Agriculture Department is represented by Bryan Apedra and Raffy Dawisan, two agricultural extension specialists.

During the presentation and conversation with the representatives, they stated that the peri-urban farmers could produce the 1,000 heads of native chicken needed for the market each week. In order to achieve this, it was decided to adopt the technology packages from Philippine Native Chicken. The farmers will handle the rest, with assistance from the Central Philippine University in the areas of technology transfer and marketing. The farmers' biggest need, according to Pastolero and Gallenero, was marketing for their goods. To strengthen the succeeding activities, follow-up activities with the president of the farmer organization are planned for February 2023.
