CPU and ICAO Collaborate for Urban Production of Native Chicken 

On February 3, 2023, the Iloilo City Agriculture Office, headed by City Agriculturist Iñigo Garingalao, and Dr. Jaime C. Cabarles Jr., representing the Central Philippine University, met to discuss the collaboration between the two institutions. This undertaking will kick off by extending the outreach of this university among the urban farmers of Iloilo City. The activities will focus, at first, on the dissemination of technologies generated from the CPU Research Station for Philippine Native Chicken. Together in the meeting were Barangay Captain Rodlen G. Gallenero, representing the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC), and Marivic Pastolero, President of the Iloilo City Farmers Federation. Dr. Sylvia S. Bermillo, chief of the ICA Livestock Division, and agriculturists Augosto Alagaban, Alvin Dianala, and Rafael Dawisan were also present at the meeting. Danna Marie E. Gabasa, Research Assistant of the CPU Research Station, was also in the meeting to serve as the focal person of this university to the City Agriculture. Also present in the meeting is Bryant Zulueta, executive assistant to the mayor for agriculture and environment, who witnessed the said event. 

The collaboration will focus on contributing to a practical livelihood among the farmers in Iloilo City. The group targeted 1,000 heads of native chicken to be marketed on a weekly basis. Central Philippine University will share the production technologies among the interested raisers in the city and will further assist in the marketing of the native chicken through the buy-back scheme. The Colleges of Agriculture, Resources, and Environmental Sciences, and Pharmacy will spearhead these undertakings. The agricultural production will be handled by the former, and health will be handled by the latter. Other necessary activities will be taken care of by City Agriculture, the Farmer's Federation, and ABC. 

The Central Philippine University Research Station for Commercial Production of Philippine Native Chicken is opening our station to both governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations that might be interested in availing of our services.
